Selfless Compassion (helping locally)
At ForestView were about reaching out beyond our walls to share our lives with others and to show compassion and caring to those in our community. The Community Outreach ministry exists to link the human and material resources of the ForestView community with the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual needs of the marginalized and forgotten of the Halton and Hamilton communities.
Our desire is for individuals within ForestView to, in their personal lives, extend their table (kitchen or dining room) to those with needs. This involves personal sacrifice and a shift in how we think about our personal time and space. We also desire to see the congregation as a whole mobilized to compassion and justice through the provision of programs and ministries that match our strengths and resources with relevant community needs.
Current ministries include:
Van Norman Place After School Kids Club - A weekly after school kids club operated by the ForestView youth in a rent geared to income housing complex in Burlington.
Fun x Learning = Success - A tutoring program for children living in Van Norman Place in Burlington.
Community Organic Garden - A project located at ForestView that invites members of the broader community from low income households to garden with members of the ForestView community and to share in the produce.
ForestView also collaborates with the following community ministries and organizations:
- Compassion Society (Burlington)
- Halton Multicultural Society (Halton Region)
- Kerr Street Ministries (Oakville)
- Bethany Residence (Burlington)
- Salvation Army (Burlington)
- MS Walk (Burlington)
