Our gracious heavenly Father,

As we enter into this new year and this week of prayer at FV,  we recognize that we are a privileged people to be able to live and worship in this community of Palermo. You have drawn us from all around the globe, from across this great country of Canada, and from all over this province to train us to see Palermo as our mission field.

Lord, we pray that we will continue to keep your vision for the community of Palermo in our prayers daily. May we know your presence in increasingly powerful and intimate ways and may we continue to seek your blessings on the individuals, the families and the institutions of Palermo.

We ask you to show us how to be purposeful in reaching out and developing relationships with our neighbours at the school bus stops, at our gyms and gas stations, our grocery stores, as we commute on the GO train, as we car pool to work, to hockey and soccer games, etc.  May we be found to be reliable as we go about your business, establishing relationships with our neighbours, taking advantage of the opportunities that you place before us to share the good news of salvation.

Please help us to be mindful that each person in our path who does not yet know you needs to know the love of the father, and to that purpose Lord, please give us compassion and sensitivity to see with your eyes, your ears. Stir us to take time before we leave our houses in the morning to be mindful of our great calling and to notice what are the recurring distractions and preoccupations that keep us from noticing Christ in the midst of our day.

Father we are grateful for the new hospital and health care buildings that will open in this coming year, it is a great blessing to us in this greater community of  Oakville, Milton, Burlington and neighbouring communities. We are grateful for the employment opportunities and for how the increased traffic will affect our businesses and building development.

We ask, Father, that as the community continues to grow that the people of FV will have a greater presence in our community, that we will be emboldened to share your Good News with those with whom we are in contact.

We pray for our own construction at FV as the building project begins this year to expand our church to accommodate new people into our community. Father, as we are faithful to extend your love, as we become faithful carriers of your good news, we ask that you will also teach us how to become a welcoming church to those you will draw to us, so that they too will experience the forgiveness and freedom found at the cross of Christ.

Ephesians 3:14  For this reason I kneel before the Father, from whom his whole family in heaven and on earth derives its name. I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith.  And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ and to know this love that surpasses knowledge – that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.
